Assignments:

1. Read: Barnet Chapter 4: Analytical Thinking (pgs. 69-134)

2. Writing: In groups, complete Visual Analysis Content Development Phase through step 3. Post all of step 3 writing on the designated BB discussion forum by Sunday noon. All class members to read all posts and make no less that one comment per post by class on Monday.

3. Read: Bernstein pg 10-20, Barnet 12-21 and 32-45, and Develop Your Thesis by Karen Gocsik

4. Notes: Combining various ideas from the three readings write two lists:

á         Basic principles for arriving at a thesis and ÒdevelopingÓ a working thesis (doÕs and donÕts)

á         The qualities of a good thesis (doÕs and donÕts).

2. Notes: Take careful notes on Gocsik reading with key points summarized into a doÕs and donÕts list.

3. Complete all steps of Structure Development Phase (full outline and self-assessment) and post full outline and opening paragraph only to BB by Sunday noon.)

4. Read all team posts and offer no less than two critique/improvements for each

Photo Session / Photo-documentation Overview

1. Review photo documentation basics (first part of Creating a Digital Portfolio Assignment) including light set up, camera settings, bracketing, and moving images off of the camera card.

2. Show and discuss slides exemplifying good and bad shots of artwork.

3. Introduce self- focused Visual Analysis Assignment

 

Assignments:

1. Complete all steps of Visual Analysis Content Development Phase and Structure Development Phase. Submit each phase as a single MS Word document named yourlastname_va_content.doc and yourlastname_va_structure.doc. Email as attachments to your edit partner and Lisa along with a jpeg file of the work in question by Sunday (Feb 6) noon.

2. Take digital images of all your artworks (no less than six) as per Creating a Digital Portfolio Assignment  Due Wed. Mar. 2nd

1. Read and take careful notes on Barnet Chapter 9, Style in Writing and Dartmouth Writing Center Pages on style. (take notes paying particular attention to paragraph level issues including PP organization, coherence, and unity)

2. Complete steps 1 and 2 of Writing Development Phase. Email your draft and outline to your edit partner and schedule an appointment to both meet with your edit partner and the writing center for feedback sometime within the next week.

1. Create your all-inclusive SMCM web site that includes an index with links to individual project/class sites with one of those designated as your 425 portfolio site. Develop pages for this site that includes a home page, anchor links, tables, images, and designed text.

 

Assignments:

1. Re Read: Barnet Chapter 9, Style in Writing Dartmouth Writing Center Pages on style and grammar (take notes paying particular attention to sentence level issues)

2. Write: Select at least 3 sentences from your draft that you think need revising. Analyze and summarize (in writing) what you think the problems are (even if they are multiple) using specific named issues from your readings.  Rewrite each of these sentences in two ways that correct the problems youÕve observed. Post to BB discussion forum.

Site must include a master site with links to al; sub sites with at least one of those sub sites named Ô425Õ that has multiple pages w/ images, internal links (anchors), navigation links, tables, styled text. All sites (master and sub-sites) must be individually ÒdefinedÓ in Dreamweaver each with correctly organized root folders.

Photo Session/ Using Photoshop to Edit and Organize Portfolio

1. Review how to organize your images using the PS Bridge

2. Review basic image editing to arrive at edited master files for each artwork (cropping, straightening w/ rotation, de-warping using transform, adjustments and adjustment layers, cloning tricks to remove un-wanted objects, cleaning up wall surfaces.
