Pass It On

by Merideth M. Taylor

Synopsis

Pass It On is a full-length drama based on episodes from Harriet Jacob’s slave narrative Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Written by Herself; the writings and oral histories of poet Lucille Clifton and the late civil rights activist, law professor, and Episcopal priest Pauli Murray; and oral histories of four contemporary Southern Maryland women. The stories move more or less chronologically through and around highly charged issues and events of American History, allowing the voices of the characters to echo, affirm, and challenge one another. Experiences and perspectives formed at the intersection of race and gender are the focus. Experimental in form, the script weaves together music, dance, poetry, dialogue, storytelling, and documentary. The cast includes five women, one man, and a child.
