About S.A.V.I.N.
This
web project began when I found that two of my favorite sites,
Sexual Assault Information Page (SAIP) and Assault Prevention
Information Network (APIN) became outdated sites. These outdated
sites are very well organized and have an extensive collection
of links to web sites with excellent information. So I began
my quest for information on the Internet. As a self defense
educator who loves to help others it pays to be well informed.
While Internet information is not always reliable and can
not replace hands-on training and education, it can provide
direction to resources and information.
My
goal is to provide an educational resource for the Internet
community about sexual violence. I believe there is a great
need for such a resource. This site is called Sexual Violence
and Information Network (S.A.V.I.N.). S.A.V.I.N. required
three years in the making and is still in the evolution stages.
It is organized so that anyone may find resources and information
of need and interest to them about sexual violence and related
forms of violence. While the site may seem biased towards
women, I made a great effort to locate resources for men.
The site is simplistic in form to emphasize content rather
than aesthetics. Care was taken to select good sites with
some longevity.
I dedicate this web site, (SAVIN), to all those individuals
who have been affected by sexual violence and all those folks
working in this field to serve and educate others. If you
are a victim/survivor remember you are not alone and it is
not your fault. There are many resources available to you.
I
welcome input about improvements to the site. If you know
of any links, resources, and information pertinent to this
site which will make an appropriate addition please contact
me at dsgentry@smcm.edu
. Thanks! God bless.
