Sue Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Art and has been teaching at St. Mary's College of Maryland since 1993. She teaches courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, combined media and 2D Core. Professor Johnson received a B.F.A. in Studio Arts from Syracuse University, an M.F.A. in Painting from Columbia University, and studied art in London and Florence. Before coming to St. Mary's, she taught at Parsons School of Design, Marymount Manhattan College and Herron School of Art at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. Her work has been included in numerous one-person and group exhibitions including shows at the Anderson Gallery of Virginia Commonwealth University, Nancy Drysdale Gallery, Bergen Museum of Science and Art, Steibel Modern, Michael Walls, The Drawing Center, White Columns, Bard College, and Art in General. She has received several national grants and fellowships among them the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, Sally and Milton Avery Fellowship for Excellence in the Visual Arts from The Mac Dowell Colony, and New Jersey State Arts Council Fellowship.
