Past Courses
Stark was born in Vienna, Austria. After obtaining a chemical
engineering degree and working for several years as a chemist, he
studied mathematics at the University of Vienna where he received his
Ph. D. In 1967 he came to the United States, first to the University of
Florida in Gainesville, and in 1970 to St. Mary's College of Maryland.
He is interested in mathematical analysis, in geometry, and the history
of mathematics, but especially in teaching. He has taught most of the
courses in the St. Mary's mathematics curriculum.
Stark is also interested in general college matters and in the
interaction between faculty, students, administration, and the college
Board of Trustees. He loves to travel and hike in the Swiss mountains,
is an avid photographer, likes classical music, especially Bach and
Mozart, and has directed several plays.
