Intermediate Econometrics (ECON 425)

 

Description:

1.   The course covers basic topics in econometrics such as multivariable regression
      estimation and hypothesis testing, multicolinearity, heteroscadesticity, and
      autocorrelation. The emphases is on the applications of basic econometric methods to
      practical issues. As a project-driven course, students will learn the use of related
      computer programs such data base program, spreadsheet program, and presentation
      program. Students will also learn how to collect and process data, apply econometric
      methods to analyze data, and interpret and present the results.

2.   Pre-requisite:  ECON 300

3.   Textbook: Essentials of Econometrics, by Damodar Gujarati, 2nd edition,
                       McGraw-Hill, 1999.

4.   Lectures:  Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00 - 3:50PM at KH222, and/or in the Blue Room
                      at ITS.

5.   Office Hours:  10:00 - 11:30AM, Tuesday and Thursday; or by appointment.

6.   Grade:  There is no examination. Grade will be based on the completion of a project
                  according to the following schedule:

                  Data collection and processes - 20%

                  Application of econometric methods - 20%

                  Analyses and interpretation - 20%

                  Presentation - 20%

                  Final paper - 20%

                  More detailed criteria on grading will be given later

7.   Attendance:  For every class missed beyond two, 1% will be deducted from the final
                          grade.
