Preparing Digital Images for Printing (the Epson 9600)
1. Designate Color Settings for Printing with the Epson 9600
(DIL)
Either
1.Begin your file as a Colormatch RGB by setting your
working RGB to colormatch:
Select Photoshop> Color settings and make ColorMatch RGB
your RGB working space.
Or
Convert your file to colormatch:
Select Image>Mode>convert to profile and make the
destination space colormatch.
For both these options (advanced mode) and choose engine:
Adobe, intent: relative colormetric, and check black point compensation.
Set up print
preview
1. Create a proof profile:
Choose view>proof setup> custom. For the profile
option pick the printer and paper type you plan to use. The Epson 9600 paper
choices are semi matte (glossy plastic coated)) or matte watercolor Ôsummerset
velvetÕ. Do not check preserve numbers. Select relative colormetric for your
conversion intent and check black point compensation and paper white.
2. Turn on proofing choose view> Proof colors. You can
also check out of gamut colors by choosing view>gamut warnings.
Make color and tone corrections based on soft proofing.
Using the proof colors option will allow you to view your
image as it might look as printed as you work on it. You can perform color and
tone corrections based of this soft proof information.
Ways to color correct include adjustment layers (one
adjustment layer effects all layers as long as that adjustment layer is on the
top. Or you can make adjustments
to a flattened file (that way the adjustment you make effects the total image.
Preparing your file for printings:
All print files should have the following features!!!
1. Tiff file format
2. DPI of 250 or 150 (only in the case where files are
inadvertently small or you are printing really large)
3. Document size set to the inch measurement you want
your print to be (for example
10x8Ó)
4. Flattened (no layers)
5. set color profile to Colormatch RGB (see above)
6. name this file: yourlastname_projx_prt.tif
7. Place it in the DIL print folder located on art
desktop of MHpro #4 (using go> connect to server command).
1. First be sure that your master psd layered file has
already been saved. Then use the Ôsave asÕ command to create a version of the
file for printing only. Select the TIFF format and rename the file to indicate
that it is your printing file (yourlastname_pro?_prt.tiff).
2. Then flatten all layers of this print file (layers>
flatten). Also resize the image (image>image size) and set your resolution
(dpi) to either 250 or 150 and your document size is the dimension you want
your print to be (always select constrain proportion and resample image.
3. If the file is not already in the ColorMatch RGB space
convert it by choosing Image>Mode>convert to profile. Select Colormatch
RGB always using Adobe engine with relative colormetric intent and black point
compensation.
4. Name your file your last name_ proj x_prt.tif and move it to the print
folder located on the desktop of the MHprolab4 machine (select go> connect to server>
browse>local>mhpro04>connect. Use the art log on then open the drive
and drag the file to the DIL print folder on the art desktop. Purchase vouchers
at the bookstore to pay for printing before you go to the lab ($1 per print for
the 1270/ bought in a 5 pack or $10 per linear foot (12x 43.5Ó) on the 9600.
