ART 338 / Observing the Head: A
Self-Portrait Drawing Due Tuesday, September 30 Assignment: Create a life size, carefully
observed self-portrait drawing (straight frontal view) on a piece of suitable
drawing paper. Pay attention to all details and pay special attention to the
topology of the head/face. Do not just draw the primary facial features as if
floating in an undefined area. This
means including the neck and shoulders too. Go back and refer
to your proportion overlay study you did of your own head (and maybe even
make some new ones as a way to help you make this drawing). Continue to use
direct observation techniques learned before including proportion notations,
measurement and basic geometric layout.
This drawing should
be fully detailed.
Therefore I recommend using high quality drawing pencils (varying
degree of hardness) or a mix of drawing tools but not vine charcoal or other
medium that will not allow for capturing details. Submitting the Work: Bring drawing to
class with your name on it. (We will also scan them later on for inclusion in
our portfolio.) Evaluation: This assignment will be graded based
on 1. Your ability to
correctly capture relative proportions and alignments and 2. Your ability to
express the topology of the head and its features (but not just the
features). |
