ART 338 / Final PDF Portfolio Due Tuesday, Dec 16 (Exam Session) Assignment:
We will create a final portfolio as a PDF document. This portfolio
must include the following:
Submitting the Work: You can design and
organize your PDF portfolio in any way you wish (but please style it such a
way that it features the work without distracting decorations) All work must be
correctly labeled (name, title, date, H x W x D, medium). All images must be
jpegs page sizes may vary but please no images over 150 dpi and 1200 pixels
in the largest direction (see guidelines below). Consider adding additional
descriptive or commenting text (but not required.) Evaluation: All the work in the
portfolio has already been graded separately. This portfolio will be graded
on quality of your photos and the completeness and effectiveness of the
portfolio as a presentation of your body of work. Guidelines for PDFs: There are many ways
to create a PDF portfolio but one of the easiest is to first create it as a
Power Point presentation and then save it as a PDF. You can then add additional pages such
as your research essays via Acrobat Pro (available in the MH lab). Page Orientation: You must first decide if you want a
horizontal or vertical letter size page.
In Power Point go to File>Page
Set Up and under orientation/slides
select the desired orientation for your portfolio. If you pick horizontal
then you will later need to set other added documents such as your research
essays to print as horizontal pages also. Preparing Images: You also must
prepare all image files. Format requirements are as follows:
Create your
portfolio layout in Power Point: Add portfolio pages
(new slides), add text, insert images and resize them, rearrange pages all by
using the standard functions of Power Point. Please no goofy layouts, funny
colors, etc. This is a serious art portfolio where the artwork is he star and
so should be styled accordingly. Remember that the goal of a portfolio is to
feature the image of your work. I recommend considering at least one full page image of each artwork (in other words, donÕt
create multi image pages such that each image becomes hard to see in detail. Converting your
Power Point to a PDF: When you are ready
to turn the .ppt into a .pdf
simply use the File> Save As
command and in the pull down format box select PDF. Adding Other Pages: First you need to
convert other docs into PDFs by using the print as PDF function available on
all MACs. Say for instance you
have your research essay open in MS word. Bring up the print dialog box (File>PrintÉ) and instead of selecting
a printer simply pull down the PDF
button in the lower left corner and select Save as PDF. Assign it a name and tell it where to save to and it
will create the PDF in that location. This will work for any applicationÕs
print command (Photoshop, etc.) Then you need to
add this newly created PDF to the one you made via power point. Simply open
the power point one Adobe Acrobat Pro (not ÒAcrobat ReaderÓ) Use the Document> Insert pagesÉ command
and when the select file to insert
dialog box appears navigate to the PDF that is your research essay. It will
ask you where you want to insert it but you can also simply drag pages in the
right side page bar to reorder pages. |
