Back to ART 308 Index

Assignments

Preliminary Reading: Serra  Rigging (PDF) 2. Read Spector on Ann Hamilton (PDF)  and TBA (on bb) DUE W 16

Research: Look up the work of at least two other artists (from list above) and comment on the specific way their work engages/defines process. You can address the artistÕs intentions in general but always use one or two specific works to exemplify your points. Please correctly attribute all references and images (simple footnote / bibliography will suffice). DUE M 28

Analysis: Define and explore the idea of process-oriented art. Write on the possible implications of ÔforegroundingÕ process in oneÕs work (how can it effect the workÕs meaning?) How do artworks that emphasize process function differently from those that do not? Reflect on different ways process can enter into an artwork. DUE M 4

Studio Project and Intention Statement: Create a work where the process becomes the focal point of the work's meaning. DUE W 6 Photo document your project and comment on the specific way you engaged the idea of process in your sculpture and how that effects (makes) the meaning of the piece. DUE M 11
