What are the Skills Needed?

-Distinguish between scholarly and popular sources.

-Know how to integrate primary and secondary sources in research.

-Understand the structure of scholarly publications in a discipline.

-Use fundamental reference sources.

-Identify and use databases (bibliographic, numeric, or full-text) in a discipline by formulating successful search strategies.

-Be able to navigate electronic resources, including the World Wide Web, and apply critical evaluation to selection of appropriate sources for a specific assignment.

-Know how to locate sources in the SMCM Library.

-Be familiar with procedures for obtaining materials from remote locations through Interlibrary Loan or other document delivery services.
